I’m going out on a limb here to assume we could use a place to practice and connect to our movement and health practices.
This is the whole reason behind me opening The Open Matt
I’ve been running classes in the Bay area for 10 years. I’ve been teaching much longer, and the whole time I’ve noticed that finding time to practice was just as hard as finding a place to practice. Why? rent’s steep and space is limited. My classes started as an invite for other martial artists and yogis to just come and practice. It wasn’t a set start and end point … just, “hey , I’m training sunday form 12-4 with some friends. Then we’re gonna go eat. Wanna come out?”
Now it’s 6 days a week and growing. This is the formula. Now I have a format for conditioning and awareness of practice to really move us forward. Yoga, martial arts, and music are what I love. Add in some good food and friends, life is great. I don’t need much more than that. I’m here and thriving because of the community that surrounds me. The Open Matt space is decorated with art and furniture brought in by the community as well.
